3 Ways to Celebrate a Sober St.  Patrick’s Day

To most individuals, St. Patrick’s Day is respected as a time to grasp the soul of the Irish, celebrate fiercely, and of course, drink. That last part is particularly true in the common sense of the occasion, and numerous individuals, who likely are not indeed Irish, get energized for the day just for the excuse to intoxicated. For anyone in recovery, this is often an occasion that can feel filled with dissatisfaction, fear, and temptation.

Contrary to belief, there’s more to St. Patrick’s Day than heavy drinking and wild partying. As the season of green is quickly drawing nearer, the luckiness of the Irish can be with everybody, despite whether you drink or not. Drag out your four-leaf clover beautifications and grasp the day with these 3 ways to celebrate without drinking.

  1. Have a safety plan in place.

It is always important to have a plan in place to help get no matter the day. To help stay on track in your recovery efforts, remember the basics:

  • Go to a meeting.
  • Call a sober friend or a sponsor.
  • Spend time with sober friends.
  • Make sure you don’t go where you know where you will be triggered.
  1. Attend a local event that isn’t focused on drinking.

Try and find a local event that likes parades. Cities across the country celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by hosting parades. These are an excellent way to get into the spirit of the holiday and are not focus on drinking. Watching a parade is an excellent excuse for you to spend time with friends and family during the day, and parades provide entertainment for all ages. Or in Veria Addison Village Club Is putting on a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration and have invited 321 Food Truck Rallies to host the event.

  1. Learn and embrace the Irish culture.

Traditional Irish songs are lively and exciting, the type of music that practically demands that you stand up and dance along or at least tap your foot to the beat.  Ireland is known for developing an iconic style of dancing called Irish step dancing, which is composed of jigs, reels, and other elaborate footwork often while wearing intricate and colorful costumes. If you have an itch to unleash your inner cook and create an adventure in the process, consider looking up a recipe for a holiday-themed treat that you can make yourself.
